The Annual London Show In Knightsbridge

The annual Ade Bakare couture show started in June 2019. I used to meet up with a friend Dolapo who is now in Prague .we would go to Harrods have a look around then walk to the V and A museum ,it’s my favourite museum In London ,they always have a fashion related exhibition, I’ve seen Dior ,Balenciaga ,channel ,Alexander McQueen ,and currently there’s an exhibition on the super model Naomi campbell .Dolapo and I would then have a pizza on beauchamp place, we did this regularly anytime I was back in london ,on one occasion we were walking past the Rembrandt hotel Knightsbridge and i remember telling dolapo I want to hold a fashion show ,so we went in to enquire and I met the lovely events manager Joanna who kindly showed me round the hotel .i then booked the place for a show the following summer .It was so exciting and daring at the same time having not done a show in the uk for years ,though we have been able to maintain our UK clients but there’s nothing like a fashion show for that extra touch of elegance .i remember flying in a week before the inaugural show ,calling clients frantically and allowing them to bring their friends .the show was a huge success with full attendance .A friend who was conscripted to help gbolahan faleye came to me at the back end to say the clients were still seating ,this was after the show and he suggested I came out to say a little speech ,apparently the clients had wanted to know what I had been up too and developments .i was so touched ,so I took them through my trails in Nigeria and designing with African textiles which was something I never did while I was in the UK .i remember telling them after the speech that these shows were very costly to produce ,so would much appreciate if they bought and could also order if their size was not available, we sold out immediately bank transfers , cheques ,cash all came in .due to its success we have been able to stage it annually .People come from all over the globe ,especially from Canada ,Europe, South America and Nigerians. Living in Nigeria are surprisingly always present in full force . It’s such a joy to see them interacting with their friends in the UK .The show tends to end around 7pm when it starts at 5pm but people are still enjoying themselves till 9/10pm .i guess it’s only once a year so they make the best of it .
